Hi,

I really like the email threading feature in Afterlogic.

Im wondering, whats the best way to deal with mail flow. Im used to sending emails, many times with a copy to myself and then dragging it to subfolders. When I used to use Outlook I even have a nifty program that lent me sent an email and choose to store it in some other folder when sending, which helped me organized and didnt require me to copy myself.

With threading, is there a way to start conversations from inside some other folder? Just to not keep inbox full of pending emails.

Or is it best to use use inbox and really keep all pending mails there, so theyre threaded, etc?

I know another technique would be to simply check my sent items from time to time, but theres a lot of things there I dont want to necessarily store or follow up on.

Thank you.

Hello,

That's really a good question. Personally, I'd probably stick to having the correspondence within Inbox, for multiple reasons:

1) when new message of the thread arrives, it gets to Inbox, and if the rest of the thread is in another folder, the new message won't be added automatically;

2) using Inbox presents a choice of adding sent mails there automatically, or sending CC/BCC to yourself, whichever is more convenient for you;

3) while using filters would allow for moving mails to designated folders automatically, the idea of filters currently implemented is rather simple, and it doesn't recognize threads at all;

4) currently, there's no way to search for messages outside the currently selected folder, so staying within one folder will always allow to find your messages.

Again, that's my personal view, and other users might have their own approaches for handling mail the way which suits them better.

Thank you, Igor :)

2) How do I do that, automatically send what I send to inbox? not finding such option.

-

I believe youre right, keeping mails in inbox, might be the best way.

Maybe a really interesting feature would be to be able to startup emails from inside certain folders (threads). For example, I have a certain person or company with whom I exchange emails frequently, when I send a new email Id choose to "start threaded conversation in a certain folder". Or even click on NEW msg icon in that folder. Might help avoid clutter emails in inbox, beacause I do appreciate a clean inbox.

Ill do some tests of using inbox :) It surely will help me on top of everything all the time, seeing all pending mails all the time.

I was referring to "Save replied messages to the current folder" option in account settings there.

Ah, ok. Thanks, Igor.

And the idea of starting a thread inside some folder, good?

That's a logical extension of the approach indeed, but it'll require a convenient way of implementing in the interface, particularly to avoid being used in error - for example, if we make it so thread starts in current folder, this will force users to always do an extra step of switching back to Inbox.
