What version number of WebMail Pro is used? Is this about ASP.NET or PHP version?
I believe there were multiple interface-related fixes and improvements in few previous builds, so please make sure you're using the latest build. If the issue persists there, please let us know.

This option is highly affected by particular web server configuration, so this is mainly a matter of experimenting. In most cases, we recommend setting it 0 which means session is active as long as browser windows is open. You can find more information on settings.xml file here.
