When upgrading webmail lite, I did the following steps (from v5.0.8 to v5.1.8):
#1 Made a backup copy of webmail/data/settings/settings.xml and wbemail/data/settings/adminpanel.xml
#2 Uploaded new version overwriting old version files.
#3 Replaced the settings.xml file and the adminpanel.xml with the backup copies.
#4 Deleted webmail/adminpanel/install.htm and webmail/adminpanel/install.php
Seems to be working fine.. did I miss anything?

Just a comment for myself...
I had to modify the webmail/common/inc_constants.php file and increase the memory limit from 200M to 400M in order to be able to receive attachments up to 40MB in size ... so if you modified any files before upgrade, you will have to re-modify them after upgrade.
Thanks

And one more thing...
After you have upgraded the files, you should login to the adminpanel and choose the WEBMAIL tab and then choose DATABASE SETTINGS and then choose UPDATE. This will update the database with any changes that need to be done for the new version.
