I'm not sure I understood this, could you please describe the problem in more detail? Thanks.

Can you receive mail after providing such password?
If you specify such password on login page, that's a mailserver issue. But if you specify it in account settings, you won't be able to receive mails during the session.
Even if you provide wrong password in account settings, it will be overwritten on next login attempt as password will be compared by logging onto POP3/IMAP server. So, it doesn't make much sense to change password in account settings, just enter correct one on login.

Check CWebMailLogin->Init function in common/class_login.php file (line ~152). This function is responsible for logging into WebMail Pro account.
We might be able to help you regarding the issue you've encountered, please enable logging in AdminPanel (Debug Settings > Enable Logging), reproduce the issue (with both normal and 'prolonged' password) and provide us with the log file for examination (do NOT post the log file here).
