I looked at the demo but I could not see anyway to create a direct link to a file, that is, a hotlink, so that the file - for example an image - could be used as source data in a website. Is this the case? Is there no way to create a direct link to the actual file or a proxy that can be used in this manner?
Thanks.

Hi,

If you share a file, the public link will allow other to download it. If you share a folder, other will be able to see the contents in this folder including the ability to view it (for media files).

Alex

Hello,

I have just installed Aurora Files and trying to explore its features found this topic which seems to be related to my problem:

I have created a folder with two files in it. Then I created a public link for this folder. When I am trying to access this public link in another browser where I am not logged in I see only that nice background but no files to download. The same happens when creating a public link for that "123" folder in the live demo.

Can anyone suggest what I could do wrong?
Thank you!

That looks like a bug, I've reported it to the developers. Most likely, it'll be fixed in the next update of the product. Thanks!

Thank you Igor for your answer.
Was this feature working before?
Do you think I can install some of the previous versions to get this feature working until you have the next release?

We've just released version 8.3.3 where the issue is corrected.

You can upgrade using the upgrading instructions.

Hope this helps.

Thank you Igor for the update!

But archive that I just downloaded from https://afterlogic.org/aurora-files is identical to the previous one (and CHANGELOG.txt in this archive ends at 8.3.2)

Should I download 8.3.3. sources from https://github.com/afterlogic/aurora-files and build from them?

(btw apparently live demo is also not updated yet)

I've just downloaded the package and the version there is 8.3.3.

Try using the following direct download link:

One more time. Any way to create a direct link so that a file can be used as content on a website? Has anyone figured out how to change the shared link address? I know you can click on view to open an image in a gallery type window and then right click and select view image to get a link that acts like a direct/hot link but this is without the actual file name and its extension.

The mechanism of public links doesn't currently support viewing files, it's just the download. And if you grab a link off the file in the account area, the link will only work if you're authenticated into that account.

OK... thanks. I tested that and see that you are correct.   But...
I found out that you can share a folder with images and when you open that public folder link when you are logged out, you can then view image and copy the url for a direct link. But it doesn't give you the file name or the extension. Unfortunately Aurora Files won't work for me without someway of creating a proper link with the filename. Too bad there isn't a way to change the link after the fact to make this possible - as can be done with Dropbox links - to make them direct file links.
Cheers.
