First attempt at integrating AfterLogic WebMail Lite with HmailServer.

I downloaded and went through the installation process at:
http://<myserverip>/webmail/install

I had no problems during the installation process. All required PHP features were available, creation of database succeeded, testing of connections worked fine, etc. At the end I clicked Exit to 'redirect' to the admin panel at: http://<myserverip>/webmail/adminpanel/ This button didn't work so I just put in the URL myself manually.

I was able to log in to the admin panel but I'm not able to do anything there. The first thing I see is the 'MySQL Connection Settings' page. I enter in all the proper information but then none of the buttons work (Test Connection, Create Tables, Update Tables, Save). None of the buttons seem to do anything when I click on them.

If I click on the Domains tab, it says 'default domain settings' but there are no settings listed, no buttons, no way to add domains, nothing. I checked the 'afterlogic' database using PHPmyadmin and it looks like all tables were created successfully.

I'm at a loss here as to what I'm supposed to do next. I dropped the 'afterlogic' database and went through the installation procedures a second time with the same results.

Am I missing something? Is there any documentation for Webmail Lite or can I view the instructions for Webmail Pro and expect the same procedures? It seems like something is broken.

I'm running HmailServer v5.3.3-B1879
I'm running the latest WebMail Lite downloaded on 7/23/2012 at this location:
http://www.afterlogic.org/download/webmail-lite

Thanks a bunch for any help you can offer.

In many cases, documentation for WebMail Pro would also apply to WebMail Lite, but this is one of those few cases when it doesn't. hMailServer integration will not work with WebMail Lite. As you have noticed, Lite version doesn't allow for adding domain (only default domain is used there), and that's a critical part for ensuring hMailServer integration.

Igor -

Thanks, that definitely explains it. I'm not sure how I missed that detail, maybe I got confused with WebMail Pro (which does integrate with hMailServer, right?). Does WebMail Lite integrate with any other 3rd party mail server?

So you say the 'default domain' is used. What does that mean exactly? I know what a domain is, I just don't know what that means in terms of how I might be able to use WebMail.

Thanks again for your reply.

First of all, let me apologize for my initial, pretty confusing answer. For some reason, I was under impression you're using ASP.NET version, and integration with hMailServer is available only for that one, not for PHP version.

With regard to PHP version, the integration features which might work are Sieve filtering and POPPASSD support. The former lets you use mail filters, set vacation message and configure message forwarding, while the latter is about changing account password. Pretty close to what they call mail server integration, isn't it?

These approaches are initially designed for the Pro, none of them were tested against the Lite one, and there's no telling if they work with only the default domain available, but still that's worth trying.

When we're talking about using default domain, that means only one mail server is accessed with that webmail install. It doesn't really matter how many actual domains are available on that server, so you can access both user1@domain1.com and user2@domain2.com, as long as those domains reside on the same POP3 or IMAP server specified in default domain settings. Thus, assuming you run hMailServer and WebMail Lite on the same machine, default 127.0.0.1 value for incoming host should work; no need to define domains or users from admin interface - just log in at main page. Easy as can be!
