Hello folks,
I'm running WebMail lite 6 .NET on a W2k8Standard (IIS7, ASP2.0), using it with hMailServer 5.3...
Often I cannot login to an email account via webmail and get "Can't connect to POP3 server, check POP3 server settings."
Edit: Now I can connect to the mailboxes, but as soon as I login I get the POP3 message.
Trying to send an email generates the same error (regarding SMTP ofc).
I can telnet to the server on 110.
Also, I can connect to the mailbox in question using a mail client (Windows Live Mail) and send/receive via POP/SMTP just fine.
Edit2: I noticed that when I change the addresses in the webmail admin, say, from "localhost" to <FQDN or IP> and click save, the issue goes away and everyone can send/receive. The functionality is restored for about 10 minutes, then it breaks again.
Changing the incoming/outgoing server address again from to any type (e.g. IP -> localhost; FQDN -> IP etc.) solves the case for another 10 mins!
This is truly a mistery for me.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Radko

The first question here is: are you sure about the version you're running? I mean, the latest version of WebMail Lite (ASP.NET) is 5.1, and version 6 is available for PHP only.
One more thing: did you check the log files? There are two types of logging, and first of all you'll need to enable logs in AdminPanel.
By the way, is my understanding correct you run WebMail and hMailServer on the same machine? If yes, doesn't setting mail server address to 127.0.0.1 help?

Hello Igor,
Thank you for your kind reply.
Yes, I noticed the version of .ASP WebMail is indeed 5.
HMailServer and Webmail run on the same machine.
As expected, changing the Default Mail Incoming/Outgoing and the domain name inc/out IP address to 127.0.0.1 (or anything else that should work - "localhost", server's static IP address and FQDN) solves the case for a while.
I've uploaded the WebMailLite Debug log for you to take a look at:
http://www.4shared.com/zip/sTB-Y-Xy/WebMailLiteLog.html
Pass is: 12345678
Note: Some users (tedi93) have been banned for 30 mins because of too many login attempts with a wrong password.
You should focus on the account "test_computel@husqvarna.bg" as this account had not been banned and is our test acc.
EDIT: Using 127.0.0.1 has been working well for half a day now. Still I am not considering this case as closed. Please elaborate on why loopback should work but not the others.
Please take a look and let me know.
Thank you for your kind cooperation.
Best regards,
Radko

It's important to understand there's no such thing as free support for community editions of our products. If you might be interested in commercial level support, consider using the Pro version, PHP edition is a recommended choice. However, there's always a chance the community members assist you on this.

Hello,
I am well aware of that, Igor.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
However, I'm sure you understand that I'd like to test a product before I consider purchasing.
In any case, this is working now. I will let you know if anything else happens.
Thank you once again.
Best regards,
Radko
