I've just installed the PHP version to see how it looks and works. I'm using it with hMailServer on Windows Server 2008 with PHP5 installed.
Everything takes way too long to make this a viable solution. Using outlook with hMailServer works very fast, but logging into webmail takes about a minute.
I just timed clicking "Check Mail". It says "Logging in to server" for 55 seconds.
It is using Microsoft SQL Server 2008. Is this the problem? I can imagine Microsoft products being ultra slow. I've never really used the database before. But I'd rather not install MySQL unless it's absoluately necessary.
Any ideas what could be slowing it down so drastically?

Did you try the Pro version in trial mode? If not, then please do so and check if it shows the same performance issues.
We are going to update WebMail Lite to version 6 shortly and it will basically inherit its behavior from the Pro, so it's important to check whether Pro version has those problems.
