I've not used either of these processes before and if I'm reading the documentation correctly it appears:
1) Android requires a 3rd party app for enable these features and a separate link for calDAV and cardDAV is required.
2) iPhone natively supports both and utlizes a single link for accessing both.
If I'm wrong on the above, please correct me.
My questions...
I have an android phone with contract running out in March. I haven't downloaded and app to access calDAV or cardDAV yet, so I'm wondering, is there a recommended app anyone has had success with?
AND
Is the iPhone superior to an android device for using calDAV and cardDAV? If so, I'm inclined to switch to an iPhone when my contract is up.

iPhone is much better in this regard than Android.
For Android, these free aps seem to work:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.gege.caldavsyncadapter
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dmfs.carddav.sync
Regards,
Alex
