This error usually means the mail server is plain SMTP (not ESMTP) and does not support SMTP authentication. You should use SMTP.AuthMethod=0 when communicating with this server.

ok. I changed my settings on the properties panel to not use SMTP Authentication and when I send an email the error does not appear, but no mail is sent.

^^------ this was before reading your message.

SMTP.AuthMethod is automatically set to 0 when "SMTP Authentication" is turned off in WebMail settings. You do not need to change it in the code manually.

However, if no error is displayed but the message is not delivered, this means the issue is somewhere outside of WebMail-mail server communication. If WebMail tells the message was sent, it means mail server accepted it. However, there is no guarantee mail server will deliver the message if mail server itself is not properly configured or email address was invalid. Mail servers usually do not validate email addresses when the client submits a message. Instead, they just return bounced message later.

Alex

ok... I have noticed that if i send and email to myself from mailbee it goes through correctly. However, if I send to a domain outside it will not send. I am new to the IIS SMTP server. Do you know how I can change the settings to allow me to send to an outside domain?

The mails may not be sent due to a number of reasons in SMTP IIS. You should check IIS mail folders (usually, they are located in C:\Inetpub\mailroot) after you tried to send message with MailBee. For example, your mail may appear in badmail folder as bounced message. This bounced message will contain source message and the comment telling why the message was delivered.

You should then adjust the settings in IIS Manager to fix the problem accordingly bounced message text. Most issues are resolved with tweaking Relay and Authenticaton settings of SMTP virtual server in IIS Manager.

However, if the problem occurred because your ISP blocked SMTP port (25), your IIS server will be unable to relay mail to outside domains, and you should contact your ISP for resolving this issue. ISPs often block SMTP ports to prevent their clients' servers from sending spam.

Alex
