Hi all,

With a fresh install of latest Lite (or even pro for that matter) when trying to get to login IE8 (winxp) crashes with this tab has been recovered. It does this two times and then works great until IE is restarted. I tried with resetting IE, new xp, etc and the conclusion is this: it's something in webmail scripts.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Is this about PHP or ASP.NET version of the product? Does it occur for the particular machine? Can you get the problem reproduced on any other machine?

It is on php enabled server, linux os.
PHP Version: 5.3.6 fastcgi with nginx.
It does this on 3 servers (although all 3 run nginx with php).
I don't think the problem is with nginx but I will test with apache just to make sure.

It does it on apache also, with php 5.3.4
In this link: http://89.37.201.19/webmail/
I just unzipped a fresh webmail-pro (latest from your site). I have done no configuration what so ever and disabled install and admin panel.

You can see the crash with any winxp (virtual or not) with latest IE for xp.

I've just tried entering that page on 2 machines, both with WinXP and IE8, and login page was displayed just fine in both the cases. And I believe if there was a substantial issues in IE8 we would get tons of reports, while this is the first case I've heard of such thing to happen. So this looks like something specific to your browser installation, and unlikely a web server issue.

You're right, it runs fine with IE no addons. But I tested it on many winxp machines from my customers since I wanted to present them the lite version and all crash. So it must be from a common add-on. I reply soon with my findings.
Thanks.

Really, I am surprised noone noticed this before! I can reproduce it on any XP machine! Do this: write in the url: www.google.com and then, after it opens, write in url your webmail address. Voila! Crash...

So in short, if default home page is google.com (or google.ro in my case) any subsequent url with afterlogic webmail crashes.

Things are still fine here. The way I see it, full description of the problem is: IE8 (no addons) installed on Windows XP (regardless of Service Pack version; SP2 here btw), main Google page is opened, and opening WebMail login page in the same tab causes the crash. Correct?

We are absolutely interested in locating smallest issues in our products, but for now, the issue is not replicated.

All you have to do is win xp sp3 fully updated, latest IE, reset IE if you must, and then open google.com and then webmail. Tested already on 6 physical computers and 3 virtual machines.

If this is not enough I can get you a teamviewer id.

And yes, we're interested in that translation. Please note that we offer our translators 50% discount on purchasing WebMail Pro discount.

Thanks for the translation, I have sent it to the developers team.

As for the issue, we were able to replicate it and will see if something can be done about it.

I don't think this will be fixed in the nearest future. For now I'd suggest to use IE8 in Compatibility mode as that seems to provide a workaround.

I have the same problem.

When I go to the http://mybox/webmail URL, the tab restarts. My homepage is "BING".

This is still not fixed even in 6.3.5 php version. you can test on any default install, even without any config done. the new version crashes even more badly, with send/don't send report and IE restart. It does this on any winxp IE8 latest updates, IE reset, all clean, after certain sites like bing, google, msn.

I really am dissapointed the developers did not look into this. I started this thread long ago, I even posted a recording movie. That's a shame because it is a nice looking project.

Well, considering that WebMail Lite 6.2 was released in early August and current version is in 6.3 branch, end of October isn't that long ago from version-related point of view. Of course, we keep improving the product, rest assured that we keep checking status for any pending issues from time to time.

At the moment, this particular issue is treated as a minor one, particularly since there's only one report thread about it at the moment yet it occurs under very special conditions, while with IE8 being heavily popular, we get multiple reports regarding any critical issues which occur there. Thank you for understanding.

Actually, looks like we've found what is causing this issue.

If you take a look into the very beginning of CSS file of the skin you use, e.g. skins/AfterLogic/styles.css, you'll find the following code within body there:

Code:
body {
...
     background: #e5e5e5 url(gradients.png) repeat-x 0px -2480px;
...
}

This is the line IE8 didn't like. To work around the issue, move that line into html section which is just above body section.

This only applies to 2 skins of the default skin set, namely "AfterLogic" and "AfterLogic_Dark". The rest of skins shouldn't require any modifications.

Hope this helps!

Hi Igor,

If I'm not wrong, Afterlogic_Dark is the default theme so it is a usefull fix. Indeed it works ok now, no crash yet.

Thank you for the fix!
