Hi,
I've just set up WebMail Lite and added a domain to it via the admin panel. The domain emails shich I want to retreive are hosted on the same server using hMailServer.
When I try to log into an account, it says retrieving emails "1 of 3500" and then proceeds to go through each email individually until it reaches 3500. By that point, the server has pretty much come to a standstill because of the memory usage of IIS. Have I set somethign up wrong, as I can't imagine it has to attempt to retrieve every single message everytime I login?
Thanks
Mark

Are you using IMAP or POP3? Is this about PHP or ASP.NET version of WebMail Lite?

Hi, sorry this is the ASP.NET version, and I haven't changed changed the default setting which appears to be POP3.
Thanks

In general case, it is highly recommended to use IMAP, and make sure Direct mode is enabled by default. In this case (unlike POP3), WebMail doesn't have to download all the mails and store them on web server, yet it allows for advanced features like sort, search etc.

Hi,
Thanks for your response.
I've changed the default connection to IMAP4, however when I log in it still counts through every email which takes ages seeing as though there are 3500 messages. On IMAP4, should it be going through each message or should it just get the first 20/30 until you click through to the next page?
Thanks
Mark

That depends on the configuration. If you enable direct mode as a default option, only 1st page of messages is fetched.

Hi,
Thanks, in that case I thought my setup should have done that, but instead it's trying to get all 3500. Can you spot anything I have set incorrectly?
Thanks
Mark

Things look fine to me. But maybe the account was added before applying those settings, in that case you'll need to delete account from user settings and create it again.

Thanks, I've tried deleting and then re-adding the domain but the same issue occurs. Do you think the problem lies within Webmail Lite (and if so, would providing any of the logs to you help?) or could it be an issue from the mail server side?

I was speaking of account, not domain. I believe accounts are not recreated when you do that for the domain.

Sorry, I'm a bit confised by that, do you mean the account on my mail server or is there somewhere within Webmail Lite that I have to specify accounts for the domains?
Thanks

When you log into WebMail with some email account, it's added to WebMail database, and settings for that new entry are inherited from domain settings (see awm_accounts and awm_settings tables for details). When you delete and recreate the domain, however, accounts which exist in a database are not affected, you'll need to delete those manually.
In WebMail Lite, the only way to delete the account is to log into it, get to Settings screen and use Delete tool. If that doesn't work for you for some reason you'll need to remove account from the database manually, that covers a number of tables including a_users, awm_folders etc.

Thanks for your help, I've managed to fix the problem by changing the ports in the database to use 143 instead of 110 which allowed me to get to the settings and delete the account. Logging in again has now picked up all the default values and it works great!
Thanks again,
Mark
