Hi! Great product works well except when I try to send mail. I get this error.

[Error: Connection failure]<br>Server responded: 504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authentication type

I am obviously missing something, but what is it?

If I can get this all sorted I am definitely considering upgraded to the pro version!

This error most likely means SMTP authentication is disabled in your SMTP server. To fix this, you can either disable SMTP authentication in WebMail or enable SMTP authentication in SMTP server properties.

It's prefferable to enable SMTP authentication on the server (it's more secure and won't allow spammers to relay mail through your machine). To enable it in Windows 2003 SMTP service, go to "Administrative Tools"/"Internet information services (IIS) Manager", then select "Default Virtual SMTP server", click "Properties", switch to "Access" tab, click "Authentication" button, check "Basic Authentication" checkbox, and click "OK".

Now SMTP authentication will be turned on, and, if other settings are correct, sending will succeed.

Regards,
Alex

Could you provide us with a test mail account on your server so we would be able to test it quickly? You can email this info to mailbee@iforum.com.

Ok, got this figured out, missed a write permission setting and had to start from the beginning. Now my only problem is that I cant send attachments.

"Send attachments" functionality also requires advanced permissions. WebMail needs to create and delete temporary files and folders in the attachments directory.

Go to "attachments" directory in WebMail's folder, delete everything from this directory, then assign "Full control" permissions to this directory for IUSR_<YOUR_SERVER_NAME> user. Now login to WebMail. You should be able to attach files to messages.

Regards,
Alex
